Years before we saw A Christmas Story we were given the seeds of some om the main parts of the life of Ralphie. A show on PBS called American Playhouse premiered The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters. The story of a high school aged Ralphie played by Matt Dillion. It's the story of a fateful fourth of July in the life of Ralphie parker that includes everything from chain letters to blind dates.
The one hour program is a great time of laughs and reflection on american life in the 50's. Simpler times no computers or cell phones. A television was a luxury that few people ha and friends would meet to watch sports games.
Ralphie and Randy about to hear the immortal phrase.
The legendary events of A Christmas Story are referred to in the past tense in this story. Now adding to the story of Ralphie this little program is worth watching as are the other show made by Jean Shepherd. There are several that cary on the story of Ralphie plus several thlk and Radio shows. This is not on dvd currently , but it is on youtube.
Well I hope you watch this with your family it's held a lot of memories for a long time. Maybe someday it will be released. Also if you like it there's a lot more out in the goggle.
