Well it was in the 90's when I first saw the drink called Absinthe. It was in a music video from a band called Nine Inch Nails The Perfect Drug was the name of the song. Dark and brooding portraying a dark and dangerous substance. It was banned a hundred years ago for its supposed psychedelic effects and an axe murder.
Well in reality that is far from the truth and you can hear along with my podcast interview with Polo Room Owner Steve Frano
I learned a lot of facts from Steve. He really knows the history of Absinthe and even has a class the 3rd sunday of every month on the how tos and drink mixings of this forgotten liquor. He showed me an Absinthe Fountain which is used to prepare the drink.
You can here all the details in my podcast on www.shakysubjectmatter.com and wow there is a lot of history with this drink. I was blown away by some of the details about it. From the great artists such as Picasso and van gogh to Poe and Hemingway Drinking it to the modern Stars such a Johnny Depp.
Then on the way out I stopped to take a photo with the Polo Room Absinthe mural which was made by our friend Nick Gjonola from Surface Designs also in Polo.
In our conversation we started talking about how alcohol was banned in the 20s and how its going to be a hundred years ago coming up and how it also connects to The Polo Rooms 20th anniversary on new years day. Steve wanted everyone to know hes having a 1920's themed New Years Eve party for his 20th costumes optional.
